Everything You Need to Know About Bremelanotide (PT-141)

What Is Bremelanotide (PT-141) and How Does It Work?

Bremelanotide (also known as PT-141) is a peptide that acts as a melanocortin agonist. It works by binding to receptors in the brain, leading to greater sexual desire and arousal. It is used to treat sexual dysfunction and maintain sexual health.
Bremelanotide works differently from more commonly prescribed sexual performance enhancing medications like sildenafil and tadalafil (known as PDE5 inhibitors). PDE5 inhibitors work by increasing blood flow to the penis, which makes it easier to develop and maintain erections.
Most sexual dysfunction medications do not increase sexual desire or arousal. In contrast, there is evidence that bremelanotide does. Bremelanotide has also been demonstrated to act synergistically with other sexual dysfunction medications to help men develop and maintain erections.
For example, a study investigating the combination of bremelanotide and sildenafil in men who were inadequately responsive to sildenafil on its own found that the combination induced “a clinically and statistically significant erectile response . . . during a 6-hour post-dose monitoring period.”
Bremelanotide has also been demonstrated to yield sexual health benefits on its own. Studies have demonstrated that bremelanotide can enhance erections in normal individuals and help men with erectile dysfunction develop and maintain erections.
Scientists wrote, “A significant dose-dependent increase in the duration and extent of penile rigidity, and tumescence was observed in both normal volunteers and in patients with erectile dysfunction.”
In other words, whether you have erectile dysfunction or just want to boost your sex life, bremelanotide may hold benefits for you.

Why Should I Care About PT-141?
Studies have estimated that around 7 to 20 million men suffer from erectile dysfunction. In addition, erectile dysfunction becomes more common and more severe with age.
There is a clear relationship between sexual dysfunction and a poorer sense of wellbeing. A team of researchers wrote, “Sexual dysfunction, and erectile dysfunction in particular, is associated with an enormous burden of illness and poor quality of life.”
PT-141 (also known as bremelanotide) is a peptide that functions as a melanocortin agonist. In simple terms, this means that it is a compound that acts directly on melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system, increasing sexual arousal and performance. It activates the part of the brain that helps you get an erection when desired.
For the significant number of men who suffer from ED and other sexual dysfunction, PT-141 has been shown to be effective at improving performance. A clinical trial recruited men with erectile dysfunction who did not respond adequately to sildenafil (also known as Viagra). The results showed that the drug “resulted in a significant erectile response as compared to the placebo.”
Another study demonstrated that it can work synergistically with sildenafil to enhance erectile response without exacerbating the side effects of either medication.
Remember — sexual health is health. PT-141 ensures optimal sexual health so you can be ready and stay ready.

The Benefits of PT-141
PT-141 works by acting on your central nervous system to increase sexual desire and performance. It is also used to treat erectile dysfunction.
Most of the clinical trials studying the benefits of PT-141 have been focused on answering two main questions: Does it work, and is it safe?
A team of medical researchers conducted a clinical study on the use of PT-141 for male sexual dysfunction. They evaluated the quality of erections using the RigiScan Plus System, which allows scientists to measure the frequency, duration, and rigidity of an erection.
They discovered that participants who were on PT-141 demonstrated significant erectile activity, while participants on placebo did not. In addition, PT-141 was generally safe and well-tolerated.
These scientists concluded, “PT-141 is erectogenic in both experimental animals and humans . . . The data suggests a potential role for PT-141 for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction.”
PT-141 also works differently from other common sexual dysfunction medications, such as Viagra and Cialis. This means that individuals who do not respond well to other sexual dysfunction drugs may achieve a satisfactory response using PT-141. PT-141 can also work synergistically with existing medications to help you develop stronger and longer lasting erections.
PT-141 has been demonstrated to do more than improve erection quality. When surveyed and compared to placebo, men on PT-141 reported greater satisfaction and enjoyment from sex, greater frequency of orgasm/climax, increased desire, and overall confidence in their ability to get and keep an erection.

The History of PT-141
The discovery of the sexual health properties of PT-141 came about incidentally. In the 1980s, a team of scientists set out to create melanotropic peptides for use as tanning agents. The goal was to create a product that could help people achieve a tan without prolonged sun exposure, which is a risk for skin cancer.
During the developmental phase of this tanning agent, scientists accidentally administered a dose of the drug that was double of what was intended. The result was, surprisingly, an instant and enduring erection. The person who received this drug testified, “I had an unrelenting erection (about 8 h duration) which could not be subdued even with a cold pack.”
It was at that moment that scientists were alerted to the possibility of using the drug to treat sexual dysfunction. Although having an erection is desirable, nobody wants one that lasts for hours on end. The scientists then experimented with lowering the drug dose, again and again, until it could create an erection only upon sexual arousal (instead of an instant erection regardless of sexual stimuli).
Therefore, an individual who takes this drug may always ready for a sexual encounter. According to the scientists researching this drug, this means “no guess work” and that “you do not have to first engage in a sexual endeavor and hope for the best.”
The incidental discovery of the properties of PT-141 mirrors that of many revolutionary drugs in the past. By keeping an open mind, scientists managed to stumble across a potent drug that boosts sexual performance in a completely new way.
Side Effects of PT-141
PT-141 is found to be generally safe and well-tolerated. However, like all medications, it may come with some side effects.
According to a study of PT-141 for use in erectile dysfunction, it causes the following side effects at a dose of 10 mg when taken intranasally:
-
Nausea (12.8%)
-
Flushing (10.5%)
-
Diaphoresis / excessive sweating (9.3%)
-
Low back pain (7.0%)
-
Taste disturbance (4.7%)
-
Headache (3.5%)
-
Somnolence / drowsiness (1.2%)
It is important to note that these side effects are observed at a dose of 10 mg, which is higher than the dose used in The Lover Protocol (2 mg). In addition, the route of administration in this study was intranasal, while The Lover Protocol uses an orally dissolving tablet.
Another study in healthy male subjects found no side effects at 4 mg and only a couple reports of flushing at 7 mg (intranasal administration), but notably sample sizes were small.
The Lover Protocol by Maximus boosts your sexual performance & enjoyment for the long-term. It contains bremelanotide 2 mg and tadalafil 5 mg taken daily to ensure you are always ready.

PT-141 Dosage Chart
What is the ideal dosage of PT-141 to maintain sexual health? This depends on the individual needs of the person taking this medication; hence, it is always recommended that you get bremelanotide via a prescription from a qualified doctor who specializes in urology and men’s health.
The very first time bremelanotide was experimented with (as melanotan II), the dose was 10 mg. For some subjects this caused a long-lasting erection. Hence, researchers have lowered the dose in the hopes of achieving a more modest response. At about 1.25 mg, an erection can be achieved upon additional sexual stimuli.
Since then, scientists have researched the properties of bremelanotide at various doses. For example, one clinical trial investigated the properties of bremelanotide from 0 mg (placebo) to 10 mg. The route of administration in this study was intranasal (through the nose).

PT-141 and Cialis ®
Tadalafil (also known as Cialis) is a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor, which increases the amount of cyclic guanosine monophosphate in your body. Cyclic guanosine monophosphate is a chemical that helps the smooth muscles of your penis to relax. In addition, it also increases blood flow to the penis. The combined result is that you are able to develop and maintain an erection.
Tadalafil is also used to treat other diseases, such as pulmonary arterial hypertension. If left untreated, pulmonary arterial hypertension can cause heart failure and death.
Bremelanotide also helps you to develop and maintain an erection, but it works by acting on the central nervous system and enhacing sexual desire and arousal. Your central nervous system then releases chemicals that result in an erection.

PT-141 and Viagra ®
Both PT-141 and sildenafil (also known by the brand name Viagra) help treat sexual dysfunction. The key difference is in how they work.
Sildenafil is a vasodilator, meaning that it works by increasing blood flow to the penis. One of the causes of erectile dysfunction is reduced blood flow to the penis. Sildenafil causes the blood vessels in your penis to dilate, allowing you to have an erection.
Bremelanotide is a peptide that works by acting directly on your brain. Bremelanotide allows you to enjoy sexual arousal; hence, it does not give you an erection just for the sake of it, when taken at the right dose.
According to the scientists who developed this medication, it has “no undesirable side effects at the therapeutic dose used.” This is different from sildenafil, which may cause a decrease in blood pressure (since it causes your blood vessels to dilate). Around 50% of men stop using sildenafil tablets over time.
In summary, bremelanotide works by increasing sexual arousal in the brain and sildenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis.
